Inclusion in Special Education

Introduction

Inclusion is a theoretical concept of social pedagogy which refers to how the school should respond to the diversity among students' backgrounds. It is a term that emerged in the 90s and has not replaced the integration, and is hitherto dominant in educational practice. Its basic assumption is that we have to change the school system to respond to the needs of all students, instead of only the students who can adapt to the system easily. The conscious and deliberate choice by heterogeneity in school is one of the central pillars of the inclusive approach.
