“In Whose Honor”

Introduction

In Whose Honor is an award winning documentary addressing the issues of stereotypes, racism, representation of minority and the influential impacts of mass media imagery, and the examination of the degree a university will justify and defend its mascot. The documentary critically examines the tradition of “honoring” American-Indians as mascots and nicknames in sports. In connection to the documentary “In Whose Honor”, this study from sociologist view point will examine how a sport mascot can be both a symbol for promoting school pride, while for others a symbol of racism and oppression.
