Executive Summary

This paper explored about the key strategic issues in preparing Human Resource policies and plans especially in the field of Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Values and Sustainability. The basic purpose of this paper is to make the reader aware about the significance of all these three aspects within different functions of the human resource management's capacity. The scope of this paper will revolve around the functions of human resource planning, recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits and training and development. All these activities have been chosen on the basis of their significance within the field of human resource management.

The main functions of human resource planning, recruitment and selection, compensations and benefits and training and development are analyzed and discussed within the paper from the perspectives of ethics, corporate social responsibility, values and sustainability. Various examples of companies like Nokia, IKEA, Intel and Anglo American are discussed in the paper. All the aspects of human resource planning, recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits and values and sustainability are defined and then explored from the viewpoint of ethics, CSR and values and sustainability. Recommendations are provided on the basis of the analysis done about the functions of human resource activities in the ethical context.

Introduction

This paper intends to discuss the key strategic issues in preparing Human Resource policies and plans especially in the field of Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Values and Sustainability. Ethics refer to the code of moral principles and values that governs the behaviors of a person or group with respect to what is right or wrong. On the other hand, Corporate Social Responsibility refers to the aspects of business for being good towards the society. Basically, CSR is assumed to be an activity which is undertaken by the companies with an aim to give something back to the society (Mondy & Noe, 1996 Pp. 90-105).

Sustainability is basically catering the current requirements while keeping in view the ability of future generations to meet their needs by focusing on the values created by the company and the culture in which the company is operating in (Susan. Randall & Steve, 2011 Pp. 265-275). All the three aspects of Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility and Values and Sustainability are extremely important in the preparation of Human Resource policies and plans. The basic purpose of this paper is to make the reader aware about the significance of all these three aspects within different functions of the human resource management's capacity (Schuler & Jackson, 1996 Pp. 25-50).
