Employment laws refer to a set of rules and laws which cover all the legalities with reference to the relationship between an employer and an employee (Jackson, 2006). Moreover, these laws play a significant role when it comes to Human Resource Management related tasks as their following is an obligation towards the employer from the national government.

Sources of Employment Laws

Employment laws stem from a multitude of sources which have an impact on the development of the laws either directly or indirectly. The following sources in this regard are worth highlighting:

Federal and State Constitutions which apply to the federal and state related employers and employees.

Federal or National Statutes including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Title VII etcetera.

State designed Statutes which are tailored to the employment demands and requirements of different states.

Rules and Regulations put forward by different Federal organizations such as Department of Labor, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission etcetera.

Different federal and state laws such as Tort Law and Contract Law.

Employer and Employee Contracts.

Agreements of Collective Bargaining between employers and labor unions (Runkel, n.d.).

Role of Effective Human Resource Manager

Legal issues rise within any and almost every employment period. Moreover, whenever such legal issues are highlighted, the employer and employee are affected and they have to respond and react accordingly. In comparison to the response requirements of an employee, an employer or the acting manager has an even bigger responsibility and role to play in resolution of the rising problem. Whenever any employment related legal issue rises, an effective human resource manager should execute the following activities:

Hiring a lawyer for the both the company and employee for correct and legal guidance.

Collaborating with the local authorities and taking decisions in accordance with the law.
