Personnel management refers to the management of the activities that are important for the motivation of the employees rather than managing the employees themselves. It is important for the managers to make sure that activities such as payroll, administrative tasks, staffing and other obligations are done in an effective manner so that the employees are able to work in the most suitable manner and that they will work for the benefit of the company. These tasks and activities are very important as they help the managers in assuring that the employees are working with complete motivation and that they will be able to address the issues of the employees whenever they arise.

On the other hand, human resource management refers to the management of people and to assist them to work in a manner in which they will be able to perform their work efficiently. Managers in this area have to make sure that the management objectives have been met and that the people working ensure that they help the company in obtaining the highest return on investment (ROI) (Waugh & Gotlib, 2008, pp. 323-330). This will help the company in becoming the leader in the industry and will also ensure that the profits of the company soar high. It can also be said that personnel management is a part of human resource management as it helps the managers in managing people in the most effective manner and that they can prove to helpful for the company, as well.
