Summary of Scholarly Article

Homosexuality is incompatible with military service because it effects certain factors; which includes individual privacy, unit cohesion and unit morale. The LGBT persons have a history in serving the military. LGBT is abbreviated for Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons that worked in military. In the military rule, sexual orientation is a personal matter whereas homosexual is incompatible in the military rule. The study focuses on the war in which there is an ongoing conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is a report identified from this research that due to conflict the LGBT service members got discharged (Moradi, 2009).

In the light of prior researchers, the hypotheses of this study were framed. It depicts that with the unit social cohesion, the sexual orientation disclosure is positively associated with LGBT military veterans where as sexual harassment and sexual orientation is negatively related. Another hypothesis that is framed for this study depicts that the LGBT and sexual orientation are indirectly related to the military veterans. Number of participant selected for the study and survey is conducted through internet data collection strategy. There are some advantages of internet data collection such as it results in greater demographic, explicit of socially desirable response, facilities recruitment of respondents thus the internet data collection technique was feasible for LGBT military veterans (Moradi, 2009).

The result of this study participants reported that there is a high level of sexual concealment, and there is a low level of sexual orientation these were the views regarding homosexuality and bisexuality in the military. There is a significant relation between sexual orientation concealment and sexual orientation disclosure. It was reported that sexual orientation concealment was negatively correlated whereas sexual orientation disclosure was positively correlated under this study. It was also reported that the sexual orientation disclosure was positively correlated with social cohesion whereas sexual orientation disclosure had indirect significant positive relation with social cohesion (Moradi, 2009).

All in all, it was reported that the LGBT military veterans report that there is a positive relation between LGBT military veterans and sexual orientation disclosure behavior. It was identified that the LGBT military veteran were positively and indirectly related to the sexual orientation behavior and task cohesion. The above discusses factors lead to positive outcomes such as job satisfaction and organizational commitment of gays in the military (Moradi, 2009).
