Gays In The Military

Abstract

Most homosexual men would never come out to their comrades until there was a certain level of pre-existing trust to begin with. Therefore in any setting, uncomfortable feelings due to gays are either unwarranted or can be defined as sexual harassment, same as any unwanted advances by a heterosexual towards a member of the opposite sex. Looking at the current policy, it does not permit the military to inquire service members about their sexual orientation, rather permits the military to expel the service members who later are identified as gay.

The policy was passed by Congress during the year 1993. It was created as a compromise among those who wanted to protect the earlier outright prohibition on gays in the military as well as those who wanted to permit gays to serve. It should be understood that gays should not be permitted to be a part of the millitary. This paper discusses the opposing view point of gays in the military.

Arguable Thesis

Gays should not be allowed in the military due to the nature of the military is against the nature of gays. The job of the military is to deal with national security as well as safety that relates everyone in the country as well as you and me.



I. Refutation (opposing viewpoints to the position you are taking)

A major claim seems to be that gays do compromise the army and it's members, and therefore should not be allowed to enlist.

On one side there are those who believe that having gays in the ranks would create an uncomfortable atmosphere with anxiety and sexual tension, thus undermining troop morale and combat effectiveness.

Homosexuality is incompatible with military service. The presence in the military environment of persons who engage in homosexual conduct or who, by their statements, demonstrate a propensity to engage in such conduct, seriously impairs the accomplishment of the military mission.

II. Supporting Arguments (main points that support your position)

The myth is that homosexual men can't control their sex drives and would molest or seduce straight men.

The irony of the situation and argument is that heterosexual men are frightened and act out against homosexual men.

Although the integration of women in the military still creates sexual tension at times, and when personal relations interfere with job performance the mission can be undermined, this is the reason that relations between members of the same unit or subordinate/superior relationships are prohibited in the military.
