The Greek title Iliados means 'of Ilium', Ilium being another name for Troy. It was used by Roman authors such as Virgil, and also appears in English literature, for example when Doctor Faustus conjures up Helen. An epic poem in 24 books attributed to the ancient Greek poet Homer (8th century BC), recounting the siege of Troy in Asia Minor.
