Contemporary Issues in Health, Wellbeing and Social Care

Introduction

Health and social care refer to the integrated services, which are available from social and health volunteers. Health care sector consists of many services including dental practices, hospitals, nursing homes, physiotherapy, surgical centres, and many others. The aim of health and social care is to provide complete health care facilities related to social responsibility. There are many contemporary health and social care issues, which should be discussed and resolved to brought up a change in our society. A health and social volunteers should possess excellent academic background and leadership abilities. It is the job responsibility of volunteers to provide unpaid care for any person, who is ill or frail or disabled (Munn-Giddings.C & Winter.R, 2013, pp. 03-37).

A census was conducted in the year 2001, which showed that around 5.2 million people are engaged in providing unpaid care (Carers, 2013, pp.nd). There are a number of health and social care issues, which are generating very serious issues in society. These issues may include domestic violence, children protection, pension crises, homelessness, and many others. All of these issues have a great power over individuals, groups, and organizations. These issues directly affect the well-being in health and social care. Among all these issues, homelessness has considered as the most terrible problem (Glasby & Dickinson, 2008, pp.nd).

Homelessness refers to the condition of being homeless. Although, stakeholders and government have created a verity of plans and policies to deal with the problem but still it is penetrating in our nation. Policies, which are made as the solution of homelessness, have their own strengths and weaknesses. Weakness is not allowing these policies and measures to derived relevant results. It is not an easy to task to eliminate this problem from our society completely, but health and social care policies are playing an effective role in resolving this problem. This paper will discuss the background of health and social care delivery. Paper will also discuss homelessness, its causes, history, solutions and response of solutions to reduce this problem. The paper will also analyse the impact of contemporary issues in wellbeing, social and health sector (Munn-Giddings.C & Winter.R, 2013, pp. 03-37).

Background

It was year 1601, when state provision passed old poor law to provide health and social care payment. In 1834, this law reformed and arranged work houses for disabled elderly people, who need care and attention. Stakeholders made free hospitals and OPDs in 1885. Government improved their policies and services for all of their citizens. In the year 1946, state implanted National Assistance Act to provide residential accommodations. Government has also started free of charge delivery of health and social care (Glasby, 2012, pp. 01-35).

Stakeholders further developed their policies and move to the development of community care centres in the year 1950 and 1960. Care homes and hospitals were made during this period. Local authorities drew up a long-term plan for health and well being services to assist their citizens ...
