Introduction to Heritage Assessment

Culture and the heritage describe the nature and values of the individuals. The persons belong to different families, societies, or they are the inhabitants of the particular area. They possess different cultures and religious beliefs that influence their lifestyle and the tradition of health. The analysts define the culture as the characteristic features related to the religion, social groups, race, or the customs. Heritage is characteristic of the person with which he born. Families follow many values of their family heritage in all aspects of life including the health. These traditions pass from one generation to the next generation, which shows their strong association with their beliefs.

In order to evaluate the health tradition of different cultural people, I interviewed three families belonging to different cultures. As a health care professional, I should know about the healthcare traditions of different cultures (Edelman & Mandel, 2010). The purpose is to cater the best health care services to all the population. I used the heritage assessment tool (Spector, 2000) for the collection of information. This tool identified the degree of association of the person to his heritage and culture. The questions of the tool include the belief of health, trust on healthcare systems, relationship within families and options of food.

Comparison of the Heritage and Culture in the Healthcare System

In interviewed three families. The first family lives in America, they migrated from the United Kingdom twenty years ago. They are eastern orthodox. They used to pray at home by using the incense or the symbols. Along with that, they also go to the church on every Sunday and holidays.
