Introduction

It is almost 20 years back when one of the prominent social movement in United States amplified awareness in general public about the health concerns and for the promotion of health, occurrence and prevention of diseases, which is known as Healthy People 2000 and 2010. It turned out to be fruitful in shifting the core focus of healthcare towards a pro-active point of view rather than to be on a reactive stand point, it endorses national health and promoted prevention of diseases. Even though, the objectives of healthcare are still not enough. Healthcare provides needs to identify and incorporate the patterns of cultural groups and the variations that take place within those cultures in order to deliver maximum healthcare which promotes health wellness.

Discussion

People belonging to different cultures hold several different beliefs about their health, illness, diseases, death and birth, which are undoubtedly directed by their respective cultures. However, this paper will be focusing on heritage assessment of the three different cultures.

Heritage Assessment

Heritage assessment is considered as an important stride in building complete knowledge of any of the culture's competency, which is known as an incident that fairly and identifies diversity in cultures, which can be in terms of linguistic and cultural competency through the healthcare service provider. Healthcare service provider is directly influenced by an individual's beliefs, culture, language and heritage, etc, that all have significant influence on the patient as well as on a healthcare provider.

Cultural Heritage Assessment

For conducting Cultural Heritage assessment, it is therefore important to define the beliefs, behaviors and characteristics of a specific society or cultural or ethnic group that serves as the base of differentiating one ethnic group or society from another. The heritage assessment is considered to be one of the main and important points which facilitate healthcare service providers to become client-centered and competent with cross-cultural aspects.

There are 29 questions which have been mentioned in Heritage Assessment Tool, the questions have been asked for investigating and opening a path for carrying out discussion on an individual's beliefs and understanding about health, spirituality, illness and support of the family that are there to link individual's value to them. This paper will be discussing the diversity which was recognized by three different ethnic groups that were American with it's between, kinds of ethnic groups like Hispanics, American Indians and African Americans. There are several different tools that are there for the assessment in order to collect information regarding the two of the cultural aspects (Wright, Fortinsky & Landefeld, 2000). There are different assessment tools about different cultures and serve people belonging to different cultures in good manner. Through the use of heritage assessment tool the greater number of positive responses illustrates the person's association with his traditional heritage. This tool also facilitates healthcare providers to recognize their own attitudes and beliefs and ways through which they can influence in delivering care.
