There is a long history about health care reform in the US. Reforms are usually intended, but they are hardly accomplished. A landmark reform in 2010 was passed by two federal statutes:

The patient protection and affordable care act was signed on 23rd March, in the year 2010. And in the year 2010, the health care and education reconciliation act got approved, and this act changed the previous patient protection and affordable care act, and became law on March 30 in 2010.
