Many persons, especially, the juvenile like to watch the games performed by expert athletes. Recently, although, there have been powerful arguments on whether or not expert athletes who obtain high wages warrant what they get. Many persons hold the attitude that their wages are too high. Contrary to the opinion of many people is my heartfelt agreement with the idea that these athletes are not overpaid.

Admittedly, professional athletes earn much more money than most people in the modern society. Many people argue that athletes getting paid several million of dollars just throw or kick the ball and their importance to society is not beyond entertainment. These people think professional athletes do not save lives, teach children, or improve the public living standard. It is unfair for teachers and doctors who gain relative less money. When people believe that professional sportsmen are overpaid, however, they overlook the following important facts.

First of all, professional athletes are some of the most dedicated, hardest working people in world. They always keep on non-stop training and conditioning. Elite athletes implement more discipline and self-sacrifice than nearly all accountants and engineers. Sometimes, they have to travel across large area, like NBA players who often have away games. Meanwhile, all professional athletes are the best in the world at the sport they play. They have brilliant talents. Such people are very rare even though the number of world population increases. For example, in NBA, there are only four hundred professional players who are paid millions of dollars. Needless to say, it is very hard to become millionaire in the sport world. These professional athletes deserve their salaries.

What's more, salaries of anyone, including corporate executives, entertainers which include professional athletes, are determined by the marketplace. The pay is set by demand and supply. In most cases, the number of players in a sport team is limited. So the team needs to hire more talented and worked players to increase the strength and enhance the possibility of winning the champion. As a result, team owners have to pay much money to professional athletes to attract them. These highly-paid athletes also make teams gain more money. Take Michael Jordan as an example. The club, BULL, which gave him thirty million dollars per year, acquired huge profits. Because Jordan is a super star. Most people liked to watch him play and bought his sportswear. In short, it is the market discipline to pay professional athletes high salaries.

Finally, professional athletes have high salaries because their bodies are put at risk. Their work is indeed physical and especially in contact sports like basketball, injuries are bound to happen. Most NBA players have been injured. Meanwhile, athletes' earning potential is actually restricted by the fact that their average careers are short. So they need high salaries to compensate these high-risk jobs and short careers.
