Group Decision Making

Introduction

Group decision making process is a highly effective and collaborative activity, which can allow the maximization of the resources to achieve the targeted objectives. The ideology of a group based activity is to build on the synergy component attained in the group entity, and use this factor to attain the maximum benefits. In an individual perspective the person is not able to conduct a comprehensive analysis of any given situation, hence leading to an ineffective decision making model. In a group scenario the different perspectives are presented regarding any given activity, leading towards the development of a moiré sustainable and comprehensive decision. In a group entity individual can also highlight the weaknesses and the issues relating to any decision, which may be ignored in the individual decision making process.

It can be stated that the group decision making process is more effective and quality oriented as compared to the individual decision making model, and this strategy can be applicable across various activities and functions. The predominant fallacy regarding the group decision making process is that it is always effective, and a positive decision can be made in any give group entity (Salas et Al, 2010). This is an incorrect assumption, as there are various factors which have an impact on the decision making process of the entire group. The objective of a group decision making process is not to include as many stakeholders as possible; rather it is to attain the ideal mix of the relevant stakeholders. Hence the effectiveness of the groups is directly proportional to the nature and the attributes of the involved participants. Hence in order for a group to attain synergy in the decision making process, the relevant performance oriented attributes and factors of the group must be present.
