Assignment

This paper requires academic research on homeland security and terrorism. The purpose for this research through empirical discussion is to maintain accuracy and reliability of sources. Participative learning through thread discussions and academic journals can reflect the learning outcomes. Selection on one of the topic and illustrating research strategies are core requirements. The criteria asked to complete introductory paragraph on the research topic. This assignment completes with the one example on citation, quotation and appendix each.

Definitions of Terrorism

FBI, the American Security Police

The Police Security defines terrorism as follows "unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate a government" (BELSAK, Lechthaler, Moosmann, Natter & Pernstich 2003, p 6).

Department of Defense

The Department of Defense takes the following definition: "illegal, threatened use of force or violence against persons or property to government or corporations to coerce or intimidate" (BELSAK, Lechthaler, Moosmann, Natter & Pernstich 2003, p 6). U.S. State Department

The U.S. State Department defines terrorism including "intentional politically motivated violence perpetrated against civilian targets by non-state groups or secret agents, with the goal of influencing public" (BELSAK, Lechthaler, Moosmann, Natter & Pernstich 2003, p 6).

Definition of the European Union

"Acts committed with the aim of intimidating a population, serious way or Government or international organization to force an act or omission or the political, constitutional and social structures of a country or an international organization destroying seriously "(http://www.geostasto.eco.uniroma1.it/tedesco/Definiton.htm).

U.S. Department of Defense stated, however, that terrorism is "the unlawful use of - or threatened use of - force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or force governments or societies, often to achieve political goals, religious, or ideological”.

Homeland security and terrorism is a broad subject area with studies on laws of various countries. In concerned with the law and criminological aspects of United States of America, it is a target. The homeland and inhabitants are under threat. The most publicized and largely discussed events of September 11, 2001 stroke the vulnerable reality towards nation. It will be fundamental to develop and implicate measures to secure the homeland.

Repression is the act of repress, restrain, deter, prevent and punish a person, an object, an idea or a desire. In Politics, repression is a type of public action, usually (but not always) taken by the state to hold demonstrations and silence opposition, subversion and dissent from the established scheme. Political repression is typical regimes of force as authoritarianism, the absolutism, the military dictatorships and totalitarianism. In Public Safety, repression is a central strategy for containment and prevention of crimes, especially in the case of organized crime. In general, successful actions of repression often accompanied by efficient working of intelligence. Methods repressive political practices often include violence as torture, beatings and executions of death penalty.
