Global Media and Communication

Introduction

Andy Warhol, in his interview with the media in 1968 said that, “In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.” The future Andy Warhole was subjected to can never be more applicable then today. The concept and the perception about the celebrity have changed rapidly over the last decade with the globalization of the media (English, 2012, P.1). According to the United Nations, the globalization is reshaping the life styles and the quality of living of the people, along with the quantity provided to them. Simultaneously, World Bank agrees to the fact that the continuous transfer of the educated individuals have accelerated in the era of 1990-2000 (Dietz, 2012, Pp. 1-30). Media has become a democratic forum, and people now become famous for events and the spots which seems relatively inconsequential when compared to the pop culture of the past. This enhancement of the media was because of its capacity and the technological awareness along with the cost effectiveness (Wasswa, 2011, Pp. 15-51). Previously, before the globalization of the media, the news flow was limited to an hour of the day and it covers only the relevant information. However, as per the analysis, now access to the news channel is of 24/7 and it covers all the news around the world bringing it to one platform (Wasswa, 2011, Pp. 15-51).

Nevertheless, the image this essay is going to talk about is Oprah Winfrey. She is an American talk show host, proprietor, actress, celebrity and philanthropist. Oprah Winfrey is popular for many things, her generous donations and the self titled talk show “Oprah talk show” are counted heavily in it (www.aceproject.Org, 2010, Pp. 19-189). The exposure of the technology and the media access has not only improved the quality of life; though, many celebrities are the contributor in ...
