Gestalt Therapy

Introduction

Gestalt therapy assumes that human behavior manages the process of homeostasis. A man reacts to the sum of the fixed response and to be accepted by the environment, the result is separated from the authentic feel and blocks their potential. The result of alienation - separation from authentic feelings and senses - is to block the potential distortion of the unit and its prospects. When the process of self-regulation is in some way disturbed, when the body is in a state of imbalance (I - the rest of the world) for a long time - it comes to mental illness. It can be defined as the art of the contact which has three domains: contact with yourself, contact with others and contact with the environment. The idea of ??the gestalt is to identify cuts of contact to improve them. It is a form of therapy that uses much work on the emotions and creativity. This is not just talk therapy. It also uses the body and, thus, change comes more easily. The other feature of the gestalt is that we are not trying to delve into the past of the patient. We work in "the here and now." Clearly, what interests the therapist; it is this person and what she does with her injuries today (Houston, 2003).

Literature Review

No individual is self-sufficient - the behavior is determined by the relative properties of the individual and the environment (examination of the operation on the border of contact). Two basic ways of functioning of the unit is a contact and withdrawal. These are the most important functions of personality - come in contact with the environment to meet the needs (further towards the objects) and to withdraw from a situation perceived as negative, threatening or not supporting the involvement of the individual.
