Functional Behavioral Assessment

Introduction

This coursework will outline the Federal Behavioral Assessment (FBA) of a six year old Johnny who is suffering from autism problem. The FBA helps the healthcare professionals in figuring out the truth behind symptoms or behavior in various medical cases. The same tenet holds true in helping people on the autism spectrum.

The FBA is used as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which is used by the health care professional to figure out the function of behavior which helps in guiding the development and selection of appropriate tools that would help in assessing the treatment (NICE, 2011).

Background

This FBA report is of a six year old boy, Johnny, who is suffering from a self injurious disorder with Autism. Johnny faces many problem behaviors which includes various repetitive and ritualistic behavior patterns. His intense reactions of the autism spectrum disorders made him a psychic and arrogant for his tangible items. He liked some tangible items which included the Hot Wheels Cars and Lego's. His attitude changes when his accesses to his tangible items are being restricted due to which his reactions turn violent.

Outline

An FBA is an assessment that can be done on patients who are in special needs, such as Autism. One of the interpretations of an FBA is the process in which it is used to analyze the sufferer of behavioral disorder. The behavioral function is one of the elements that are being analyzed during the FBA process. It is categorized in four categories, which acknowledges many professionals to investigate the functions on each level.

Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. The diagnostic criteria require that symptoms become apparent before a child is three years old (TBH, 2013). Autism affects information processing in the brain by altering how nerve cells and their synapses connect and organize; how this occurs is not well understood. It is one of three recognized disorders in the autism spectrum the other two being Asperger syndrome, which lacks delays in cognitive development and language, and pervasive developmental disorder, not otherwise specified which is diagnosed when the full set of criteria for autism or Asperger syndrome are not met (NICE, 2011).

Parents lack in observing their child having signs of autism spectrum disorder. The early cognitive interventions can lessen the chance of any autistic child to have the ability gain back his powers uptil some extinct. Many researchers have been seeking a cure for it because in the birth of 100 children there is only 2 or 3 children born with autism spectrum disorder.

Functional Behavioral Assessment Report

To carry a FBA report for the Autism sufferer, there is a need of certain assessment tools, forms and procedures before any implementation of analysis. This may require a detailed outline and overview of the patient who has been suffering a behavioral disorder which can't be cured or operated but can only be controlled (Steege, 2009).

In this coursework all the assessment tools, forms and procedures will be highlighted that ...
