Commentary

Eating behaviours of people are largely governed by the religious, cultural, economic and political settings. Though food is necessary element for survival and most of us try to consume food which should provide us with the necessary nutrition values; still our eating habits have become complex with the evolution of cultures of different place. This is the reason why we find entirely different eating habits in the different regions of the world.

To maintain the food diary, I took help from the resources available over internet (Start losing your weight today, 2012; Built lean, 2010). A number of templates and samples of food diaries and journals are available for free. Mostly people use these templates to record their food intakes, and manage their weight correspondingly (Easy journaling, 2013). I made it a routine to mark entries in the diary template as soon as I was done with any meal or snack. At the beginning, I found it difficult to carry the diary to College where I had to take notes mostly about my first snack and Lunch. However, after forgetting to take diary to college for a couple of days, it became a part of my routine to carry it with me all the time.

I am a Muslim female and thus my food diary reflects the consumption of HALAL food. I do not consumer Pork and Alcohol as a part of my religious obligation (Food by Country, 2013). Observing my food diary reveals on me that I have been taking food high on calories, for example, desserts, soft drinks and Juices (WebMD, 2013). Similarly, I have also been focusing more taking carbohydrates, instead of proteins (Atkins.com, 2013). In addition to the excessive carbohydrates and Calories, my eating pattern also reveals unnecessary consumption of fats (Rena and Gillis, 1996, p.2). I almost daily take fried items such as fried ...
