Abstract

Motivation is the key to success for an individual in personal and professional life. In today's busy life, individuals find it difficult to keep themselves motivated as they have to face severe amount of stress not only in their personal live but also in professional lives. Employers also find it difficult to keep the employees motivated because of the extent of work. The objective of the study was to find out factors that could lead to motivation of an individual. We conducted a thorough analysis of the literature on this topic and concluded that appropriate reward system, feedback from employees, good working environment and salary raise were the most significant factors leading to motivation at workplace.

Introduction

Motivation plays a very vital role in the lives of an individual. It is not only important for human beings in their individual lives, but also plays a crucial role in their professional lives. Motivation is such a force that keeps an individual happy towards whatever an individual may pursue to complete. Especially in the organization, it is very important for individual to stay motivated, which otherwise could create serious issues for the employee. If the employees are not motivated towards their work, they may feel stressed out and may not be able to complete their work efficiently. Hence, it is also important for the employer to understand factors which could lead to motivation of employees. In this paper, we have tried to find out general motivation factors and factors that could be important for individuals at workplace.

Review of Literature

A lot of studies have been conducted on the theory of motivation and the factors that affect the motivation of an individual. We have conducted our study by carrying out a thorough analysis of the literature on the subject of motivation.

Thierry has defined motivation as the driving force behind all activities of individuals within the organization. In terms of psychology, the usual definition suggests the intention and persistent determination, often summarized as tenacity, which a person has in terms of achieving their goals and targets. What this drive does is helping us align ourselves and mould our surroundings in terms of making greater amends in the name of goal achievement and help us undertake greater objectives in life. Whenever identifying such behaviors, there have been several synonyms associated with goal attainment; there is some in-built instinct, which help us identify motives and help us escalate in the name of modified learning, gain of knowledge and viable education and development (Thierry, H, 2008, pp. 91-108).

Locke in 2006 studied the concept of motivation, defining how human beings get motivated towards their work and their personal lives.
