Introduction

The Cranes are Flying (1957) is directed by Mikhail Kalatozov, which depicts the state of World War II. It has been observed that this movie is not greatly rated in the U.S and shows no nudity, little violence regarding World War II and only unclear allusions to sex. The film was set in the boundary of Russia during the World War II, and was made under the regulation of Nikita Khrushchev while Soviet became soft which happened after Joseph Stalin's dead in the year of 1953. This movie has no blazing incompatibilities, and is usually realistic particularly made in the Soviet Union. It has been noted that few critics also mocked on the Five Year Plan of Stalin.

"The Cranes Are Flying" is a love story which is a tragedy that was set against the World War II. Veronica and Boris are in love and willing to get married, but eventually they get apart as Boris needed to part in the army. On the other hand, the cousin of Boris symbolizes the decadence of Western as it lies in getting the exemption of artist from military service. Moreover, after she loses her parents in the bombing at German, Mark, cousin of Boris seems to take benefit of that situation and quickly marries with Veronica (Woll, 2003). This movie great to understand the feelings of a couple at the time of war, which also indicates to those families whose children were fighting in the World War II, far from their families. "The Cranes Are Flying" gives an unusual look for the audience of West into the Russian side of the war, it is also known as the "Great Patriotic War".
