The Feasibility Study Report

X.1 Background

Brief Introduction to the Aim of the Project

In summary, the aim of the project is to design a website and create a database.

Introduction to the Feasibility Study

A website can be designed using various languages, and same is valid for creating a database. The aim of this feasibility study is to compare and contrast the features of the software under consideration, in order to select the best one for meeting the aim of the project. We compare the software VISUAL STUDIO and DREAMWEAVER for creating a website, and MICROSOFT ACCESS and SQL SERVER FOR creating a database.

X.2 The List of Questions

The following questions are relevant to the project and must be answered before the development work starts. In this feasibility study, these questions relate with choice of the programming languages. In the next section, the report answers these questions through research and analysis.

Q1 What are the available options for programming languages that can be used for website development and database creation?

Q2 What are the features of these languages, and their comparison?

Q3 Which languages shall we use?

X.2.1 The Programming Language

For the Website

There are many options available for designing a website. However, the most popular are:

a) Microsoft VISUAL STUDIO

b) Adobe Dreamweaver

Summary of Visual Studio

Visual studio is a general purpose web development application provided by Microsoft. the web developers also use it to develop various applications including console, windows form, and web services. It is the simplest web design tool available and especially suitable for the beginners (Choo J., 2008). It is the Integrated Development Environment providing the easy drag and drop interface for controlling servers and the database servers. It becomes more user friendly as, it displays the server controls on an easy to read and navigate control panel. It can help in developing the ASP .NET web applications efficiently.

Visual studio suits more for web development rather than design, i.e, it focuses more on the internal logic of the websites as compared to the looks. It includes code editor and a debugger for debugging both at the source level, and at the machine level. In addition, several tools are available for developing GUI applications and database schema. The plug-ins acceptance feature enhances the functionality by adding even more tools such as editors and tool designers. It supports multiple programming languages.

The main disadvantage of using visual studio is that the developer must use other Microsoft applications to support it. It does not work well with other vendor's software. The package is also sometimes reported to be hardware specific. For example, if a person needs to work on Apple's system with this package, he may not have the same level of quality. Another disadvantage is that it does not well fit in the organization framework where the employees work in team collaborations as it is both hardware and software specific. Also, the package does not include several extensions, and ...
