It is no surprise that most of us fail to understand the importance of architecture in our lives. We do not know that no matter what profession we are associated with, architecture of our workplace has a profound effect on us. The paper presents a small description of my profession and my working conditions as well how the architecture for the place affects me. It proposes some of the changes that need to be made to the architecture of my workplace according to user benefit design criteria.
Definition of my profession
Currently I am enrolled in the Architecture class and I am majoring in Finance management. Being a student, I have to spent considerable number of hours each day in front of the computer to complete my academic assignments and reports. I am keenly interested in financial research and work on a lot of financial reports. This has made my life quite sedentary as I spend most of my time gazing in a box called the computer screen. The exposure to too much of light coming out of the computer screen has to be balanced with the architecture of the space around me (Herrington, 2007).
The architecture of a place in most cases is considered as the walls around us. This could not be farther from the truth in that there is a whole science involved in the making of the walls and giving a shape to a space (Dee, 2010). It must be noted that there is a reason why an office space looks different from the comfortable home space and why a restaurant gives us a different feeling than a hospital. Is it just the furniture? Not exactly. It is the lighting, the sound, the use of space, the color theme and the integration of the all the design elements that come in architecture.
Changes to be made
The space that I need to change is my workplace. The changes that I plan will be implemented with the underlying objective of making my working space more comfortable and more facilitating. In doing so, it is imperative that the elements of design criteria are kept in mind and each area is worked on in detail. These are discussed hereunder.
Perfect setting
Behavioral Facilitation
One of the most important elements of architecture design is to design a space that makes it possible for the space to encourage and facilitate a desired behavior. For instance, a home is a place where a person wants to relax and feel comfortable. Hence, everything in the house should not only be functional but should also keep in view the comfort of the user (Olin, 2008). Similarly, kitchen has to be designed in a way that makes the most use of space. The placements and cabinets should be such that they encourage interest in cooking.
I think the most important furniture for my office space would be a table accompanied by a comfortable chair ...
