Summary of the Article

Straka, Brandt and Brytus (2013) emphasized on evidence based nursing practice in a pediatric hospital. Analysts proposed the research in nursing, as well as evidence based practice as fundamental to the practical discipline of nursing. Straka et al highlighted obstacles in implementation of the research information into practice. To appraise the difficulties in employing practice based on research, investigators conducted the survey. 239 staff nurses participated in a survey. Council of evidence based research or practice structured a dissemination framework depending on the results of a survey. Council decided to implement the plan over a period of one year. In that period, council made a decision to provide resources in order to execute the nursing research and evidence-based practice. At the end of a long period of implementation, investigators appraise the same barriers. In this appraisal, 157 staff nurses participated. Following this, the analysts compared the outcomes of two surveys. The results of the comparison include publications, national presentations, nurse driven research and an elevation in projects. Length of the survey tool, difficulty of questions and sample size are some of the limitations of this study. The number of participant nurses reduced to 157 from 239. Some of the questions of the survey were difficult for nurses to understand and answer. Therefore, nurses showed a lack of interest in a survey at a second time.
