Abstract
In this study we try to explore the concept of “ERP” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “ERP” and its impact on business and society. The research also analyzes many aspects of “ERP” and tries to gauge its effect on “businesses performance”. Finally the research describes various factors which are responsible for “ERP” and tries to describe the overall effect of “ERP” on “businesses”.
Executive Summary
Undoubtedly, the environment in which competition exists in the business now required to promote the processes and business activities that generate the competitive advantage of companies on its strongest competitors. Therefore, for several years, there has been greater emphasis on Information Technology and alignment with the strategies of the business to improve their key business processes. Proof of this is so substantial increase procurement package software business such as ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), in which company executives hope to have integrated all areas or departments of the company to generate and support their products and services. This study is aimed to collect different opinions concerning, what are ERPs, what are its benefits? What are its impacts on the companies? It is hoped that the information collected will serve to help the reader get a better picture of the ERPs.
Introduction
Today more than ever, businesses require tools that provide control and centralization of information, in order to make the best decisions for their processes and strategies of business. The ERP is a robust solution for businesses looking for a universal solution to centralize information. The implementation of ERP system is usually long and complex because it involves redesigning schemes work. Its implementation is a high risk, and that involves complexity, size, high costs, a substantial team development, as well as investment of time.
In most companies, it is required to replace existing infrastructure, which involves investment of capital, additional expertise and ability to temporarily stop the business for implementation: the other part is important to note that the degree of experience of providers is an important factor for the proper functioning of the system. The ERP is a comprehensive system management business that is designed to model and automate most processes in the company (area of finance, trade, logistics, production, etc.). Its mission is to facilitate the planning of all resources of the company (Adam & O'Doherty, 2000, pp. 305-16).
On the other hand, Kumar and Hillengersberg (2000) define the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) as "packages systems configurable information within which information is integrated across functional areas of the organization. ERP systems are extremely expensive, and once that ERP systems are implemented with success brings a number of important benefits for companies.
