Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of “the enhancement to OSPF in order to manage Heterogeneous Environments” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “the enhancement to OSPF” and its relation with “Heterogeneous Environments”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “Experimental Assessment of Routing for Cloud Computing”. Along with that we will also be reviewing the research paper “Experimental Assessment of Routing for Grid and Cloud”, the review of the paper will enable us to understand, how the new routing algorithms could be introduced for the improvement of (GR), in the case management of systems running under complex environment such as; cloud and grid computing.

The rigorous research in the area of non-stop forwarding and graceful restart of routing resulted in the implementation of OSPF-GR. But the technique requires all the neighbouring routers of the OSPF-enabled router to support this function which is not possible in heterogenous environments such girds and clouds due to the backward and multi vendor incompatibility of the OSPF-GR. Keeping an additional adjacency per OSPF neighbour can introduce extra overhead in the form of doubling the number of adjacencies maintained by router A.

INTRODUCTION

Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), is one of the most popular link state routing protocols. OSPF operates usually, although not necessarily, within an Autonomous System (AS) i.e. it falls under the category of interior gateway protocols (IGPs). OSPF is the widely deployed in large enterprise networks. Large scale deployment and decades of successful experience running OSPF have stimulated several efforts to improve the protocol's operation in response to the continuously changing nature and demands of the routing infrastructures. Modern routing infrastructure needs to sustain a very high level of service. The introduction of Heterogeneous Environments such as Grid and Cloud computing has further increased the case of

node's failure. The Grid and Cluster computing technologies are being deployed on a very large scale due to their ability to cluster computing power of several heterogeneous devices in an affordable manner in order to deliver modern web applications. OSPF, therefore, needs to achieve and maintain faster than ever convergence, scalability and reliability, dynamic and swift adaptation to changes in the network topology in order to support these Heterogeneous Environments.
