Emergency Management

Introduction

As far as Emergency Management services go, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has been at the forefront especially in times of recent natural catastrophes. FEMA aims to provide support to US citizens and has been playing a vital role in maintaining security management as well as ensuring that they are trained perfectly in order to protect its citizens, as well as respond, recover and alleviate all hazards. There is no doubt about the fact that disaster can strike anywhere at any time, and although precautions are taken to protect individuals from its effects, everyone must face the after effects one way or another. FEMA, due to its unending motivation towards helping people, was given the privilege of joining the U.S Department of Homeland Security in 2003, and has since redoubled its efforts to prepare for disasters. According to research dating back to 2011, FEMA can boast of having 7,474 employees who are placed across the nation effectively providing support to its citizens and performing their duties in a capable manner. FEMA has a very large operational system that spans over ten offices placed around the nation, making up the emergency management team. These offices include the FEMA headquarters, as well as the National Emergency Training Center, Center for Domestic Preparedness/Noble Training Center, and other locations. In this paper, I will be analyzing the policies which are utilized by FEMA and their effectiveness, as well as the PPD-8(presidential Policy directive 8).

It tore apart lives and almost immediately became an overwhelming problem for the state, who found that they did not have sufficient resources to provide help to the poor affected citizens who suddenly didn't have a home or had lost their families. The local response units were just as baffled, and the state was appalled at the incapability's of local personnel. Communication infrastructure was severely damaged which meant that people could not inform authorities of the situation with which they were faced. No one could come in or out of the hardest-hit areas, causing further panic and tragedy. During this natural catastrophe, there needs to be complete clarity and open lines of communication between the lines of authority that have ...
