Introduction of the Patient

The name of the patient is Catherine, who is a self sufficient, proud and well maintained older adult. She has been brought for couseliing by her daughter named Linda, as she and her family have been hugely concerned regarding the well being of Catherine. The problem Catherine has had in recent past has been things like forgetting to safely turn off cooking facilites and appliances. She is feraing of the fact that she is suffering from Alzheimer.

Research the chances of being diagnosed with Alzheimer's as an elderly adult. Explain the numerical data from at least three different studies that support your findings as outlined below.

The disease Alzheimer's is defined as a progressive degenerative process affecting the brain cells, making it little by little the individual who has them incapable of a normal life and eventually causing death. In Italy about 492,000 people suffer from it, and 26.6 million worldwide in one study of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, USA, with a clear predominance of women (due to the greater life expectancy women than men) (Waldemar, 2007).

According to research conducted by the Institute of Geriatrics, Mexico Alzheimer's dementia is more common among older adults. It is now estimated to have over 600 thousand people over 60 years being affected by this disease. This was stated by the Secretary of Health; Solomon Chertorivski who said that the country has a window of opportunity to form a comprehensive plan to combat this disease, as yet the population over 60 is a smaller group.
