Introduction

The Dayton Veterans Administration Medical Center is one of the oldest Veterans Administration facilities providing medical care to Veterans. The center was designed to create an atmosphere of home where we find spaces that promote both privacy and sociability. There is also a place to give palliative care to residents during end of life and enable their families to accompany them. It is established to provide extended health care and quality services focused on global needs and respecting the wishes of clients and their families and to provide care and personalized services in a holistic manner to maintain optimal health for each resident and, once at the end of life, help them die with dignity in a respectful environment. They work on what Abraham Lincoln once said, “To care for him who endured the battle and for his widow and his son orphan ...”

Discussion

In order to provide quality medical services, The Dayton Veterans Administration Medical Center has 400 employees, including health professionals, and volunteers. Our activities are spread in three areas: patient care, teaching and research: 

Patient care that is perfected by advanced technology that our multidisciplinary teams are at your service.

Education in science and technology related to health, including training undergraduate medical vocation confirms our university hospital.

Clinical trials and clinical research in several departments and health disciplines as well as basic medical research with the Atlantic Institute for Cancer Research.

Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment

This medical center also helps veterans who have disabilities and are associated with the services to find, and maintain an appropriate employment and also for those who are with grave disabilities in order to improve their abilities to live more independently. Some of the services VA provides are (Billings & Halstead, 2009):

Job Search: support in locate and uphold appropriate service.

Professional Evaluation: An estimate of the capabilities, talents, needs and interests.

Career Exploration: counsel expert development.

Job Training:  experience and training on the job free of cost, if necessary.

Education and Training

It offers benefits to the veteran, active duty members while are in an accepted program of training or education. Billings and Halstead (2009) reported that clinical teaching involves student-teacher interaction in experiential clinical situations that take place in diverse and often interdisciplinary practice environments. This is borne out in this organization as the nurse educators are responsible for the education needs of the various Careline employees.
