ABSTRACT

The illegal trade of drugs is a global black market and it poses a serious threat to public safety and health, which is dedicated to the sale, manufacturing, distributing and cultivation of drugs that mainly subjects prohibition of drug laws. The president Richard M Nixon lauched the war on drugs, thousands of individuals who were some way involve with drugs that were illegal have been killed and millions more have been imprisoned and arrested. In contemporary society one of the biggest current issues is the war on drugs. Billions of dollars are spent by the U.S for fighting the war on drugs to no avail. It has been popular among several past leaders for giving the military a broad role in efforts in drug interdiction. However little success has been yielded on focuses upon supply side reduction in drug trafficking. This study states how the drug are categorized as legal and illegal, how it's uses is criminalized currently at federal, local, state and national level and how the Americans has called for war to eliminate this practice.

THESIS STATEMENT

In the United States the use of drugs is criminalized currently by all levels of government and is the subject of “war” in order to exterminate the practice.

INTRODUCTION

This study states the basic aim of reducing corruption and crime in U.S was the prohibition of harmful drugs. At all levels of government the drugs are forbidden. This paper also states the history of the wars on drug, along with the policies being imposed by the U.S government agencies, the consequences including the economic and personal cost of drugs. The role of military in reducing the drug role has also been mentioned. At different levels policies are stated and how the drug is categorized as legal and illegal.The outlook of contemporary issues have been specified. The legal act of forbidding the consumptions, sale, transportation, manufacture of harmful substances is known as prohibition. These substances include alcohol, heroin, cocaine etc. A substance which when absorbed in the body of the living being is known to alter the normal bodily functions of an individual; such substances are known as drugs. The sales and production of illegal drugs surrounding the industry has been thriving for long. The largest market for illegal drugs is the united stated today. Therefore the drugs are banned currently at federal, state, national, international levels in the U.S. For nearly a century, the U.S is struggling with drug violence and has spent around billions of dollars to create a successful collaboration between the supply and demand reduction strategies; however the issue is still persisting. This is basically a war without a clear enemy.

DISCUSSION

The US legislation has distinguished the legal drugs (e.g. nicotine, alcohol and medicines) from illegal drugs (e.g. cannabis, cocaine and heroin); these are actually based on two assertions: Illegal drugs lead to social disorders and violent crime.
