DO VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES CAUSE AGRESSION IN CHILDREN?

Introduction

Most of the time, parents are found having issues related to video games usage as in their views they consider it as an activity that enforces aggression in children. American Psychological Association journal has stated that children who are exposed to violent games become highly aggressive. Due to action and fighting based video games, children become psychologically involved in these activities. Violent and inappropriate manner is often found in a child that is not only due to the excessive use of video games. Children do not only get harmed due to exposure of violent activity based games but there are various other reasons that influence them to become aggressive. the emotions of children can get harmed due to the environment in which they live in. there are some cases in which children have not ever played video games but still they are having high level of aggression in their personality, this means that video games is not the only cause behind the growing aggression in children (Anderson et.al, 2010).

The role of parents is of great importance in controlling the attitude and behavior of their child, as it is their responsibility. Parents can control aggressive behavior of their child with the help of effective parental guidance and communication. The communication channel can be maintained among the parents and their children with the help of positive attitude and energy. Parents should try to monitor their children, so that whenever they find their child going on a wrong track they would be able to manage them accordingly before any mishap happens to them. Media violence is growing higher these days due to violent and criminal activities depicted in their programs. Violent video games is having harmful effects on children's mentality, as they are found getting highly involved in making criminal plans that would lead them towards fulfilling the cruel mission.

Thesis Statement

Violent Video Games are not the main cause of aggression in children, but it is due to lack of proper control, communication and parental guidance that is causing aggressive behavior in children.
