Homicide is the killing of one human being by the act, procurement, or omission of another. Persons commit homicide when they purposely, knowingly, recklessly, or negligently cause the death of another human being. Although the term homicide is sometimes used synonymously with the term murder, homicide has a much broader scope. By definition all murders are punishable criminal acts, but many homicides are not. For example, homicides are not deemed unlawful when they are committed under circumstances for which the law recognizes a valid defense (Hagan, 2010). To determine whether one act of killing is more violent than other is quite difficult, however, there is a general perception that homicide related to homosexuality are more violent, if compared with homicide related to rape. This is because of the fact that homosexuals are not accepted by the society and such resistance creates mental depression among anti-gay or anti-lesbians. On the contrary, homicides related to rape are hard to prove, which reduces the chances of being caught for the person who commit this crime. However, a more violent rape homicide will increase the chances of being caught by the law enforcement authorities. This is also one of the major causes, of claiming that homosexual homicides are more violent than rape homicide. The further explanation of the fact will consolidate the claim that homosexual homicides are more violent than rape homicides. The social and legal values affects a person emotionally, who attempts or attempt to commit homosexual homicide, unlike rape homicide which is purely based on fulfilling the sexual desire (Hagan, 2008).

Only in 2010, approximately 12,996 people are murdered as a victim of homicide. However, ever since people started to expose their sexual orientation in United States openly, number of murder on the basis of sexual orientation has also increased. In the past few decades, thousands of lesbians and gay have been assaulted merely on their sexual orientation. A study conducted in this regard, reveal that one out of every fifth gay or lesbian has been victimized criminally, since they openly claim their sexual orientation. Additionally, the assault against gay and lesbians could lead to psychological disorder for the victim (Marmot, Friel, Bell et al, 2008).
