Introduction

The advanced practice nursing (APN) is characterized by offering an advanced level of nursing practice that maximizes the use of nurse's expertise and knowledge in order to meet the needs of clients in the health domain. Advanced nursing practitioner plays a vital role in the health and wellness of people with disabilities. They define the nature and extent of disabilities; they work to prevent disabilities from occurring at various levels; they identify and treat the multitude of diseases, injuries, and conditions that cause disabilities; they help patients and clients manage their existing disabilities; and they work to rehabilitate people with disabilities. This Advanced practice is now a reality in countries like the United States, UK, and Canada. Responsibility in those key objectives for the organization, such as accessibility, rationality of resources, etc., is the ultimate goal which is oriented toward advancing the Care Strategy developed by the Ministry of Health. The definition of Advanced Practice Nursing (EPA), however, is heterogeneous and is now conditioned by the level of development of countries that have been integrated (Australia, Canada and, especially, UK) as factors specific to each health service. However, it can recognize a number of key elements that characterize it. Among them, based on a model and methodology nurse with a holistic approach, incorporating techniques and specific diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, which is based on the advanced use of knowledge based on evidence, and that requires institutional leadership. Nurses, incorporated into this model are then professional practices with a high level of expertise in assessing complex situations with a large clinical competence. They also conduct a wide range of practical and theoretical activities based on scientific evidence and their statements are characterized by high autonomy and high degree of responsibility (Spratley, 2000, pp. 14).

The purpose of this study is to expand the boundaries of our knowledge by exploring some relevant facts and figures relating to the role of advanced nurse practitioner role within an infectious diseases assessment room. In the next section the author will examine the role of Band 6 senior staff nurse within an ID assessment room.
