Introduction

The sport is now a first-order economic activity in European society, which represents about 1.2% of GDP, between 1.5% and 1.8% of total consumption and more than 150,000 direct and indirect jobs. However, the enormous resources that television is at stake, along with gigantism and loosely expressed by some managers of companies and sports clubs, raises fears for the necessary balance and stability of this important economic sector. Any attempt to assess the economic importance of sport phenomenon through the establishment of the premise that sport, in the abstract, does not exist (Donnelly, 2008, pp. 11). To the extent that sport is a cultural activity in U.K has been a significant development in recent years to fill an important role in the lives of citizens, also has economic importance that often people do not appreciate. In U.K, we find that the 550,000 or 600,000 million pesetas in 1989 represented the sports-measured both by the side that involves the public contribution to sport as private consumption side of it, represents approximately 1.2% Gross Domestic Product of our country. This paper will discuss what is the importance of sport in the country's economy so, it is Sport as an object of consumption, public funding of sport, professional sport, the economic dimension of the major sporting events, and several histories of some professional athletes in the country (King, 2007, pp.1).

Discussion

Historically, periods of economic growth has always been linked to increased consumption and in recent years to increased sports consumption. Sport makes an important contribution to economic and social cohesion and more cohesive societies. All residents should have access to sport. The needs and situation of under-represented groups, therefore, need to be addressed and the special role that sport can play for young people, people with disabilities and people from less privileged backgrounds must be taken into account. Sport can also facilitate the integration into society of migrants and persons of foreign origin as well as support inter-cultural dialogue. Sport promotes a shared sense of belonging and participation and, therefore, an important tool for the integration of immigrants. It is in this context that making available spaces for sport and supporting sport-related activities is important for allowing immigrants and the host society to interact together in a positive way (Gruneau, 2003, pp.1).

Public funding of sports

Public funding is another aspect to consider. That is, the money the various government appropriate to their practice, promotion, distribution, etc. Here we enter in the field of political discussion on whether, first, notable contributions to the sport, many people dispute that the government, outside the dizziness of compulsory education, should financially support the sport-, and second, whether the amount spent by the government is inadequate, insufficient or excessive.
