Dangers of Alcohol

Abstract

The consumption of drugs and alcohol is one of the most widespread addictive disorders in the world. Addiction is not something that be controlled easily because it is linked to the brain. The process of addiction begins when the substance is first used. The chemicals of the substances cause the brain to behave in a different way and create a sense of sensation, relaxation, and pleasure. These sensations do not last long and after they end, the brain creates an urge for the same substance since it can no longer live without the substance. Therefore, in order to give the brain the sensation it desires, the individual will have to continue the consumption of such substances on a regular basis (Stein, 2003). Alcoholism may result as poor psychological condition, it can be genetic or a result of cultural influences. Although, alcohol is a legal drug but its addiction can give rise to various problems, such as social and psychological issues. This paper presents research on the dangers caused by Alcohol. However, this can be done by covering the basic and common effects of alcohol, such as slurred speech and impaired memory.

Introduction

Although alcohol is, a legal drug but its addiction can give rise to various problems such as social as well as psychological issues. Alcoholism is divided according to the degree of harm it provides. It should be detected at early stage as to how to deal with this problem (Guebaly, 2007). As prevention at an early stage can be a great help for the addicted person. Alcohol withdrawal occurs when there is a declining blood levels in alcohol. Sedative hypnotics such as alcohol are known for its propensity to persuade physiological dependence. Alcoholism is a serious disease that affects the individual his family and the society. Alcohol remains the number one drug problem throughout the world. It would be a serious mistake to consider alcoholism an incurable disease. Alcoholism is a social evil which give rise to bad influence in the society and harms the individual psychologically as well as mentally (Jaeger, Lohr, Pankratz, 2001).

This research will be helpful for enhancing my knowledge and it will be helpful in developing my objective research skills. Furthermore, this research would also be helpful in providing pragmatic solutions regarding the problems emerging in the society. Similarly, it will also help in understanding those who are suffering from this menace and it will help to solve their problems more effectively.

Discussion and Analysis

Effects of alcohol on the brain vary with the number and type of drinks the abuser consumes. Slurred speech, blurred vision, faulty memory, difficulty walking and slowed reactions can be witnessed after only a couple of drinks. Most of these impairments don't last very long. This does not mean that a person, who drinks heavily and regularly, will only be affected for a very short time.
