Introduction

Cyberbullying refers to the concept of using computer, internet and communication technologies for causing harm to the people. Over past few years, the concept of cyberbullying has become wide spread in the society, especially with the young people. This essay discusses the common forms of cyberbullying and some of the ways to prevent this hazard.

As the teens have started spending long hours surfing on internet, messaging friends on mobile, uploading their photos and personal information on social networking websites and chatting and playing games with unknown online friends, the issue of cyberbullying has become more common. Cyberbullying has been becoming a critical and threatening issue for adults in general, and for children in particular. Cyberbullying deals with humiliating, harassing, embarrassing or threatening someone using digital technology, such as cellular phone or the internet. The cellular phones are used for sending picture or text messages, while internet is used for exchange of emails, or for the development of defamatory websites.

The most common form of the cyberbullying is the transfer of text and picture messages on the cellular phones. These messages include such content which spreads terror in the kids or the adults. For example, the teens send sexually explicit or suggestive materials in the text or picture messages, with the intention of embarrassing or hurting others, or post the pictures and videos of victims without their consent.

While cyberbullying, the teens pretend to be someone else, they mislead the people in order to retrieve their personal information and then use it for harmful or non ethical actions. Most teens who engage in cyberbullying activities report that their friends were the main source of encouragement, and that they never thought about the consequences.
