Cultural Diversity Paper

Introduction:

The world comprises of different cultures and different civilizations working together in harmony, for achievement of certain common goals. These aims include attainment of a higher standard of living for everyone along with provision of better living facilities. However, all these cultures differ greatly in their customs, values and norms; also, the ways of attainment of common goals differ from each other. The differences play a significant role in defining the code of conduct of individuals, as well as their beliefs and everyday dealings.

Cultural Self Assessment:

Belonging to a particular culture implies that one has to adopt accepted norms, and act in according to some unsaid rules of the society. Same goes for different religions and faiths. As far as I am concerned, I am a Catholic Christian by birth and am open to all other religions and cultures. I believe in respecting others, regardless of their cultural, ethnic or religious background. It is due to the same reason that I appreciate and take full interest in understanding other religions and cultures, as the exercise only widens one's horizon but also helps in maintaining respectful relations with people belonging to different faiths.

My family has quite strong educational as well as professional background, which implies that most of my family members are well qualified and respectable members of the society. The family lives in a rural area that is divided on the basis of ethnicity, and only people belonging to same ethnic backgrounds are able to enjoy friendly relations amongst themselves. The central division is on the basis on religion; two major religions—Christianity and Islam—exist side by side and yet fail to amalgamate with one another.
