Cultural Artifacts - Statue of Liberty



Abstract

In this paper, we will analyze the creation and cultural significance of 'Statue of Liberty' which is one of the famous cultural artifacts. The history of the Statue of Liberty is the memory of the time change. Statue itself was placed on a granite pedestal, which was built in connection with the war in 1812 in the form of stars. On October 15, 1924 this American landmark had become a national monument. By the time, the island on which the statue is situated was named as "Liberty Island" in 1956. The creation process of Statue of Liberty will be discussed in detail in this paper. Being a landmark, the statue is perceived differently by different people. It is considered as a cultural artifact of US. It also depicts the sign of freedom and liberty.

Introduction

The idea came from a lawyer and professor at the College of France, Edouard de Laboulaye in 1865. The project was entrusted in 1871, by the French sculptor born in Colmar, namely Frederic Auguste Bartholdi. The choice of brass to be used in the construction was entrusted to architect Eugene Viollet-le-Duc, who had the idea of using the repoussage technique. In 1879, the death of Eugene Viollet-le-Duc, Frederic Auguste Bartholdi appealed to the engineer Gustave Eiffel for deciding the internal structure of the statue. Discussion

The monument itself is perceived by each person differently. Some people admire its beauty, some struck on its unusual size. This is not surprising, because the "Lady Liberty" really is a celebrity among both tourists and Americans. Although New Yorkers are used to of it so much, but still it is never overlooked. This grandiose building has a height of 47 meters, and with the pedestal - 93 meters.

Creation of the Statue

Many visitors have no idea that the creators of this miracle are French. The official opening took place on October 28, 1886. However, the idea of ??sculpture was born long before that date.

Back in the late sixties of the nineteenth century, French scientist devised secure moral support for Americans in their struggle for independence. Arranging a meeting, they offered a gift to America, the statue, as a sign of friendship. Sculptor of the Statue of Liberty was named by Frederic Auguste. Internal frame of the monument was designed by Gustave Eiffel. Beginning in 1875, the main task was housing of copper sheets. But at this time there was a shortage of funds seriously. Americans erected a pedestal, and the French harvested every article that was collected later in the U.S.
