Cultural and Research Paper addressing Filipino Americans

Abstract

In this study, we try to explore the concept of cultural research addressing a specific minority population of Filipino Americans in a holistic context. The focus of the research is on “Filipino Americans” and its relation with “counseling”. The research also analyzes many aspects of “problems of Filipino children”.

Introduction

The following paper states the cultural research conducted on the specific minority population of USA. The minority population of Filipinos from The Republic of Philippines is focus of the current research. Filipino Americans are one of the largest Asian Americans populations of USA. There are approximately 1.35 million Philippine born people living in the USA and the second largest immigrant population.

The Filipino Americans are a group of people who have diverse socio-cultural and historical experiences like no other group in USA. They are the only group, which are declared as Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Hispanic. (Echavez 2009)

School Counseling For Filipino Students

Well-balanced and complete school counseling system serves to promote the Filipino students success at the school level. School counseling of foreign students allows the students to mix up with the local population and resolve the issues which are restricting them from being a part of the class. The whole school counseling program facilitates the Filipino students who are studying in American schools.

It is very important that the counseling program should be comprehensive and covers all the issues, which are related to the Filipino students. A counselor should make sure that there is a balance between the services. By developing a comprehensive counseling, a counselor can address the issues related to the Filipino students. Many of these children are the first or second-generation immigrants and most of these students do not have a good understanding of English language and face many issues while communicating with other children in school.

Some of the children have just moved from their native countries in to America and they are still facing issues in adjusting to the environment of the American schools. Some of these children are facing difficulties in making friends with other children like them and due to this they are facing a problem of being lonely all the time and this is really affecting their performance. It is very important for a counselor to understand the nature of these children and their problems before start working on them to resolve their problems.

School Psychology of the children

School psychology involves applying the ideology of clinical psychology and educational psychology to counter the problems and issues that are affecting a child or a youngster's ability to learn and grasp a concept and any behavioral problem with the child.
