A case study on State Crime

Introduction

State Crime is failure on the part of the government to act or an activity that violates the state's self criminal law or public international law. The state can be defined as elected and appointed officials, bureaucrats, institution, organizations and bodies that constitute the mechanism of the government. Initially the state played the role of prevention, using the warning of punishment as a tool to keep the behavior of the citizens in control. Many theorists have looked at the duty of the state as one of the potential initiators of crime (Ross, 2000). Many corporations have the power to influence the state in assisting them with their intended operations. Mutual benefit can be achieved by the state and the corporation if they work together, but it comes at the cost of ignoring the needs of the public. The state is for the public and its interest should be a reflection of their needs. The law should be the same for everyone and should not have any relaxations for the violators. This essay looks at a case where the state works with a corporation for its own benefit. The circumstances under which it is done and how the situation is manipulated in favor of the guilty party is analyzed.

Discussion

Crime is usually considered as a struggle between the good and bad forces. A typical society consists of political systems, business, and communities which are threatened and disturbed by crime and have the will to suppress it. Some crimes do account for this point of view, but some crimes are complicated. In the recent past crime has been seen as not something that happens every day but is also as a part of the political and economic structure of the society. The system is such that it incorporates crime rather than it occurring due to the disruption in the normal way a society operates. The link between power and crime is very complicated and varies in nature (Friedrichs, 2009). The crime that is committed is not easy to categorize and the crime might emerge at a time when the government is changed. It makes it difficult to carry out the investigations on the part that is guilty and make them account for their crime.

The existence of weak, corrupt and inefficient governments and questionable business activities are acknowledged but not everywhere (Evans, n.d, pp.2). The public does not have any worries in telling the law enforcement agencies about the organized crime. The major tactic employed by the powerful businesses is to conceal their company and operations from the state. The state has to make sure that the public does not revolt against it if its sees a strong and obvious link with a corporation that is carrying out illegal activities.

The media revolution in the past has helped people understand the notion of state crime better. If the state is inflicting injustice to a particular section of society, it can ...
