Criminological Theories

Introduction

“Crime” is a violation of public rules of behavior as inferred and articulated by the criminal law, which replicate community belief, traditional values, and the point of view of people presently holding social and political power. Individuals who violate these rules are subject to punishment by state authority, social stigma, and loss of status. The inhabitants of high crime societies often lack the ability and capital to efficiently assist other people living in the society. They are underprivileged, and most of them are single parents who are constantly struggling with family responsibilities (Barbaree & Marshall 45). These inhabitants have a very less chance to have close ties with their neighbors and to care about their own community. Their involvement in the community is very low because they do not own houses over there. That is the reason they perform criminal activities in that community or society and then moves easily as they do not own up anything in that society. Due of this fact most of the neighbours are not aware of them since these people typically move into and out of the society. As a result, they are least likely to interfere in neighborhood matters. This means that they are not active on supporting community organization of various types. This paper seeks to examine the criminological theories and their application in the real life. The paper presents an application of these theories in producing criminal tendencies and behaviors in people, especially the youth.

Discussion

The criminology literature has various different theories pertaining to the subject of crime causation. Crime is a very complex phenomenon, and that is reason, it cant be explained in a single theory which covers all the situations of a crime. Crime includes brutal violence, as well as sophisticated white collar crime and crime, can be performed by a single disordered offender, as well as highly organized criminal organizations (Mafia). If we take one theory and genarilze it will all the criminal cases, then the result would be distorted. Crime is like cancer if it is not stopped, it can take away everything. After analyzing all the theories, I can fairly deduce that criminals are born because of societal and environmental influences. No one is a born criminal, but situation and life events lead a person on the way of crime.

Crime is believe to be more witnessed in communities that are economically disadvantaged, large population size, and high, in family disturbance (high rates of divorce, single-parent families). According to my analysis, a person who has been deprive of all the basic necessities of life would eventually become a victim of jealousy ( by observing people around them). These underprivileged individuals will look for alternative ways of earning the basic necessities because they have failed to achieve them with honesty. They develop a complex behavior, which makes them think that they are the most neglected members of the society and this thinking eventually motivates them to perform illegal activities in order to have financial gain and a ...
