Crime Prevention Strategies

Introduction

The economy of the whole world has been facing the austerity changes which has been affecting the industries and increasing the rate of unemployment in the society and leading to societal discourse. In turn, this has been weakening the communities and societal cohesion, which has been escalating the crime fear and delinquent behaviour. In this situation, the government has been pressurised for the provision of effective crime prevention strategy and for using the approach that provide instant outcomes with lower costs (Schneider, 2010, pp. 11-15).

In this essay, we will consider the comprehension of society and communal setting with respect to its relevance to crime and its prevention, how the opportunity for crime and societal deviance has been playing their role on delinquent behaviour and criminal acts. Moreover, this paper will discuss the criminal acts so as to comprehend the crime prevention. Moreover, this paper will include the evaluation of Schneider's four pillars of crime prevention which will be expanded on social and situational crime prevention approaches fir the identification of their influence on society and crime (Siegel, 2011, pp. 101, 139).

The evaluation of situational crime prevention will show how narrow the approach only looks for the removal of criminal opportunity and how the approach brings in quick results to crime prevention while marginalising and the failed societies in other societal contexts. The concepts of deviance will cover Merton's strain theory and Durkheim anomie theory. Both of these theories form complexes for social prevention. This results in how the governmental control reduces the monopoly on the setting of crime prevention strategies and how government uses surveyed and national recorded statistics of crime for supporting their policies for crime prevention and agendas for budgets.

Situation crime prevention is an effective model while the crime as an offense clusters in time or space (Tonry, 2011, pp. 141-143).

On the other hand, the model of social crime prevention is focused on the main cause of criminal activity particularly the forces that make contribution to criminal behaviour, abuse of drug and a host of adolescent issues. Social crime prevention works on the basis of the premise that criminal activity is rooted in the social illness of the society, thus this model is focused on development of the programs and policies for the improvement of opportunities for family life, health, housing, education and work and the activities of neighbourhood prospective offenders. However based on the current economic situation it ...
