Introduction

Crime has an impact on how we live, whether real or perceived. This feeling can be managed but can also destroy the social, economic and actual neighborhoods. Unlawful activities are evolving and require actions that minimize the occurrence of these actions. Obviously, by applying the idea of ??"doing more with less" reduces the chances of successful crime prevention initiatives. The word crime refers to a set of acts that are against the law, to varying degrees. A person, whose acts does not match acts as required by a given society, which violates the laws of that society, could also be defined like a crime (Kruger and Liebermann, 2001).

What is CPTED?

CPTED is defined as “Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.” CPTED is a crime prevention tool that focuses on good design and use of an environment. CPTED is rapidly becoming a proactive measure in the strategic planning of crime prevention, a move that may play, a role in reducing incidents of crime reducing fear of crime every year increasing the quality of life.

CPTED is not the final solution to the crime but rather a strategy that can be applied in all kinds of existing and future developments. CPTED strategies are based on the idea that architects, planners, landscapers, interior designers and police together can create a climate of safety within a community by developing a physical environment that influence human behavior in a positive way (Felson 1994).

To understand the concept of CPTED, we must understand the four basic principles.

Natural surveillance

Natural surveillance would maximize the threat of taking into custody for criminals by calling for steps, which would add to the perception that we could keep an eye on people in the area. Natural surveillance would take place, when we would design and place physical characteristics, activities, and security personnel, in a way that would make best use of visibility and would nurture positive social-interaction in between lawful users of private and public areas.

Control of the natural access

Control over natural access would limit opportunities for occurrence of any crime by taking steps to distinguish between private and public space. Through, designing exits and entrances in a specific and controlled way, adjusting lighting, fencing, and landscape that would limit the flow of things, we would be able to exercise control over natural access.

Territorial reinforcement

Territorial reinforcement would encourage social-control by an altered explanation of space and by improving proprietorship concern. An environment, which is designed so that private space could be identified, would ensure two things. Firstly, it would create a sense of ownership in people, as owners always have a stake and; therefore, they are very likely to confront trespassers and report them to the police. Secondly, the sense of owned space would help in developing an environment in which intruders or strangers and are identified in a very obliging manner.
