Introduction

Social Identities are one of the biggest influencing factors of the children during their growth and learning phase. They teach the children how to behave in society and the behavior which is expected or should be adopted with specific individuals (girl-boys, girl-girl, boy-boy, white-black, black-black, white-white, etc). This has been social debate that classess in schools are divided on the basis of social inequality and gender basis increasing the focus on ethnic and gender inequality. In this paper I have discussed the impact of social division of class on my personality.

Discussion

I am no exception, from the first time I remember, in grade two; I remember being subtly influenced by the social identities, even though I was not aware of the phenomenon, the name or even that I was being influenced in any way. I grew up in a quaint place, where the neighbors used to be friendly with me. I would say even that was a part of my social identity, belonging to the certain community which was familiar to one another. This created a sense of trust in the minds of the people and the children (us) were allowed to go to school by ourselves and generally experience freedom. This inculcated a sense of independence in me right from an early age.

In the school environment, I remember that we were segregated automatically, without any instruction according to color and sex. The girls would usually associate with the girls, boys with boys and the black children with only black children. This is one of the biggest impacts of social identity.
