Introduction

Lean management, was first introduced in Toyota factories (Toyota Production System) over the 70 years, is a rather complex system of organization. The objective was to improve the best process performance by exploiting the methods, techniques and practices currently available. Active resolution of production problems and therefore declining stocks, the fight against waste and reducing defects, just in time, the production flow from and deadline management, flexibility and effective management skills, as well as cost reduction, are integral parts of the process. Lean productions, if implemented correctly, possess many advantages which can give the companies' productivity major boost. In return, they will obtain a major competitive advantage over traditional process.

Lean production gained another major boost in the 21st century where growing alternate taste and custom orders gained pace. Growing demand gave lean producers the ability to cater much easily compared to ford style mass production system. Things look different when companies adopt lean management as a cornerstone of its philosophy and implementation. Lean production has its own criticism and weakness such as the unlimited working hours. That is, managers have full control over working hours which means that if production quotas are not met then workers have to work for extra time regardless of what was the cause of this delay. The article mentions that this causes stress and sense of urgency that is felt by workers and can eventually lead to social problems.
