Control of Organized Crime

Introduction

Organized crime is referred to as a non-philosophical activity that involves numerous individuals interacting closely, structured in a three level hierarchical fashion, with the prime aim of acquiring power and profit by unlawful acts. The people who take functional and authoritative positions in the hierarchy may however base on close relationship or acquaintance, or they may be reasonably assigned based on one's ability or skill. These positions do not count on the persons acquiring them instantaneously; only those members are assumed to be permanent who struggle to make the organization continue to achieve its goals to the fullest. This avoids the development of the sense of competition and endeavors for monopoly on a territorial or industry ground (Klaus, 2011).

Organized crime may be categorized into four types. The first type being the criminal gang that usually caters the gangs that roam around for robbery, kidnapping and some sorts of drug smuggling; the other type are the criminal organizations that cater to a group of people circulating prohibited services or products like sex, drugs, gambling, etc. The other two groups include criminal schemes that are objected to extract money from lawful or unlawful organizations; and criminal political machines. These types of organized crime may work independently or in collaboration with one another.

Problems Presented and Relationships Established by Organized Crime

Factors related to organized crime are of four types: economic matters, governmental issues, law establishment, and changes in social or technological matters. The combination of all these factors keeps changing that help in determining the nature and seriousness of organized crime in a particular organization.
