ABSTRACT

This paper is having a rationale to explore contemporary issues in management, includes changing demand and global recession. Hence, strategic change management and global recession is required. Researches have revealed that there is a significant and vast literature available on these issues. Most of the studies asserted that global recession and changing demand has become vital for business sustainability and competitiveness, which also raised management issues as it requires in-depth understanding and knowledge about changes in the business environment. For better understanding, this study takes in Blue Marlin, a brand design company to examine the contemporary issues in management, includes changing demand, changing technology, changing environment, expected unforeseen happenings, and global recession etc. Global strategic issues faced by Blue Marlin, such as the lack of strategic alignment and understanding of local markets; barrier in communication because of cultural differences across the world countries; inappropriate allocation of resources; and competitor risks.

Introduction

The business world is rapidly changing and evolving, which give rise to several management issues and challenges to companies, especially operating in the global market place. The management discipline should respond in a strategic manner to these changes emerging in the business environment to remain competitive and for extensive business sustainability. This paper addresses two contemporary issues in management which includes global recession and changing demand of technology and it is suggested that these issues should be handled by managing strategic change and global strategic analysis (Warner, 2010, pp.11-160). Global recession framework has four levels: geographical industry scope, various locations competitiveness, the geographical reach of the company, and the local versus global integration of certain activities. Other key contemporary management issue is changing demand of technology in the organisation. This paper undertakes several theories of management to address the link between dimensions of managerial action and corporate culture, and the development of strategy in a firm. These contemporary issues are considered in management, and exemplifying them with an example from work undertaken in Blue Marlin Brand Design Company. The aim and purpose of this paper is to enhance our understanding of both issues in terms of managing strategic change and changing demand of technology.

Literature Review

Global recession

Several management issues are highlighted in the literature review in relation to the strategic change management; some of them are discussed in this paper. The global strategy essence refers an expansive vision of the world, which considers the likelihood of all locations as a source and market of competitive edge. Global businesses should develop management strategies for global expansion, integration and diversification to exploit, protect and develop their capabilities and resources. Determinations of degree of coordination and geographical scope should be taken as regards to a global competitive environment (Edmonds, 2011, pp.349-353).
