1.1 Research Background

Human resource management has always been one of the most important and valuable asset in the construction industry. The practices of human resource management are mostly linked with acquiring value through autonomy, productivity, cost, contribution and skills awareness.

Even though, the construction industry is among the most labour-intensive industries, yet there is inadequate attention given to the people management issues in this industry. Moreover, the main focus of attention in regards to Human Resource has been one the most considered aspect of the functions of human resource management, yet numerous problems and serious issues rise on the project (Becker, Gerhart, 2006, 779-801).

The research question will aim to answer following questions:

CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW

2.1 Human Resource

The human resource management (HRM) is a set of practices of management with the aim of mobilizing and developing human resources for greater performance of the organization.

This activity should aim to improve cross-communication, while upholding the organization of the company (Bresnen, 2000, 86).

The human resource management can be divided arbitrarily into two broad categories:

One hand the administration of human resources (payroll, labour law, employment contract etc.).

On the other, the human resource development (career management, talent management (GPEC), recruitment (selection), training etc.)

The human resource management is finally responsible for the co- production and quality management.
