ABSTRACT
Since the mid-90s, Ireland, Erie or "Erin the Green Island" led European development, reaching up to 11.3% of G.D.P in 1997 & 10.4% in 2000 in accordance with Euro Stat. This development, similar to that of the Asian economies, was the envy of its neighbors & the state earned the nickname "Celtic Tiger, which now belongs to the past. The hitherto booming house construction, one of the biggest employers in the state, has collapsed in recent months by the effects of higher interest rates, rising unemployment, oil prices & the appreciation of euro. As a consequence, activity in the construction industry decreased by 16.4% in the first quarter & financing in general has decreased by 18.6%.Entire construction amount generated least revenue ever. Following a two-digit turn down in entire amount produced in 2009, an even less reduction is forecasted for 2010. The paper aims to answer that what led to the recession in the construction industry in the U.K & particularly in Ireland and what factors could be controlled to recover from the situation and finally what are the implications of the recession in the Construction Industry in Northern Ireland. The study suggests that the effects of recession in the construction sector has been widespread and pervasive and would continue to affect the economy and the professionals concerned in the university in the time to come.
