CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Background to the Research Problem
The construction industry involves the production of a number of infrastructures, facilities and resources. It has been observed that the success of this industry has highly contributed towards the economical success of any country. Generally, construction projects are carried out in an outdoor environment and thus, changing weather conditions significantly affect the execution of these projects (Gido & Clements, 2009, 21).
Construction project activities are substantially sensitive towards the weather conditions. According to Chau (2007) that almost half of the activities related to construction projects are affected by weather conditions. The changing weather conditions can adversely affect the construction projects and result in delay or complete failure. Therefore, managers need to go through proper designing and proper planning in order to manage and execute the construction projects effectively.
Importance and Benefits of the Study
Adverse weather conditions can turn out to disrupting to the construction projects. This study will help the contractors in understanding about how to handle the impact of weather conditions. This research will further provide a framework for future researches to identify various ways in which they can handle the adverse situations and project delays.
Research Questions
The research questions for this study are:
What are the Impacts of Weather Condition on the Construction Projects?
What are the implications in order to deal with the influence of weather conditions?
What steps are to be taken by the contractor in order to execute project effectively?
Are the implications effective or not?
Research Aims and Objectives
This research aims to analyse how weather can affect the construction projects. The objectives of this research are stated below:
To analyse the impact weather on construction projects.
To analyse the steps taken for dealing with the adverse affects of weather conditions.
To analyse the steps that should be taken by the contractor in order to execute a construction project.
To analyse the effectiveness of the steps taken.
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
Construction Project
Project management in the construction industry is the process by which plans, directions and controls of a system are developed within an acceptable cost and within a minimum specified period of time. Although these factors can be very influential and very important in the failure of a project, they are usually accompanied by other flaws. The errors which result in project management failure include those which do not meet the requirements, which exceeds the delivery times repeatedly or those which exceed the costs (Kreiner, 2005, 335).
The answer to this question can be found in two sources, mainly. These include the deficiencies in the tools and techniques for analyzing the design of systems or the mismanagement of construction projects. In the case of unmet or unidentified project goals, the error may appear due ...
